The 78th's 1994 recording, Live in Scotland, is another trendsetting live recording. The band returns to the birthplace of the pipe band, Scotland, to play before a sold-out crowd of 1,200 enthusiasts in Motherwell.

There are many highlights in the recording, but it is the finale - the band's interpretation of Juno Award-winner Donald Thompson's "Journey to Skye" (a work written expressly for the 78th Fraser Highlanders) - that is the most invigorating track on Live in Scotland.

The recording also features the traditional Celtic music of Cape Breton and a choral rendition of an ancient Gaelic song learned from Scottish émigré and native Gaelic speaker Ishabel MacDonald of Toronto. New Canadian compositions by Bruce Gandy, Michael Grey and Bill Livingstone are once again highlights of this recording.

Live in Canada - The Megantic Outlaw Concert, recorded at Saint John, New Brunswick, in May 1992, showcased what is largely considered to be the most adventurous musical work ever attempted by a pipe band. Composed entirely by band members, "The Megantic Outlaw" is a 7-minute musical extravaganza that tells the famous Eastern Townships story of Donald Morrison - the Outlaw of Megantic - who was wrongly accused of murder in the late 1800's , and whose thrilling but thwarted attempt to escape from injustice is celebrated in written Canadian folklore. Using imaginative tempos, time signatures, and harmonies, "The Megantic Outlaw" is a Canadian musical odyssey.

The Immigrant's Suite, with its centrepiece title track marks composer Michael Grey's musical investigation into the roots of the Canadian Scottish immigrant. The suite pays homage to the millions of Canadian Scots across the country; including most of the band's members, who have a debt of gratitude to their ancestral Celtic forebears.

Live in Ireland, recorded in concert at a sold-out theatre at Ballymena, Northern Ireland, captured the intensity and thrill of the band's music. The recording remains today the highest-selling pure pipe band record in history.
