New PM for the 78th Fraser Highlanders

The 78th Fraser Highlanders Pipe Band is excited to announce that Michael Grey has accepted the post as the Band's third Pipe Major. Michael's talent and experience are second to none, and we are very much looking forward to our next steps as a band under his leadership. As a band, we could not be more pleased with the results of our search. We are thrilled for what the the future holds for the band as we transition to new leadership.

“The band has been fortunate to have enjoyed many years of excellent leadership,” said leading drummer, Drew Duthart, adding, “so we’re excited to begin our next chapter with Michael Grey; not only is he a seasoned piper and proven pipe band leader but also a founding member of the 78th.”

Along with Michael, we also extend a warm welcome to Ian K. MacDonald.

Ian K., as most know, is one of the piping world’s foremost active competing solo pipers and up to now has been a member of the legendary 12-time World Champion, Field Marshal Montgomery Pipe Band.

Said Ian K., “The 78th has always inspired me; I think back to my days as a younger player and the groove and music never failed to move me,” adding, “but now, to have the chance to play with my son, Cameron, a drummer in Drew’s corps, well, that’s just gold!”.

“This year I was looking for more piping in my life,” said Michael Grey. “I never imagined more piping would mean membership, again, in the 78th, a musical home that is the place of so many of my epic pipe band experiences”.

The 78th Fraser Highlanders Pipe Band look forward to the contributions and expertise of Michael Grey and Ian K. MacDonald as we look to move the band higher and continue to play good music well - and have fun.

This is a thrilling day to be a Fraser as we turn the page to the next chapter of the Band's storied history.
